New Sailor 1911 KOP Urushi “Kaga”

Urushi lacquer is a very special natural material,which is made from the sap of trees, which only grows in East Asian countries. These Urushi is in a very limited supply. Deciduous Urushi tree takes 15 years to reach maturity. The Urushi sap is then mixed with other compounds to form the lacquer. When hand apllied to the surface of the pen and kept in high humidity it slowly sets into a hard durable and lustrous finish, which is waterproof and resistant to most other materials. This special lacquered surfcace protects the pen in the best possible manner. The Urushi is applied in up to 12 separate coatings, all of which have fully harden and dry before the next application. The total process can take up to two months to prepare.
The result is a splendid new collection from the Japanese Sailor company which is specialized for years in the creation of pens with this finish. The Urushi lacquer is applied on precious ebonite bodies using the famous 1911 KOP (King of Pen) model equipped with an oversized 21kt nib in medium and broad sizes. The new 2022 collection includes 12 eye-catching colors.
