In 2023, the StarWalker collection looks beyond planet Earth to the stars and galaxy and takes inspiration from materials from outer space, such as the Widmanstätten Pattern, considered among nature’s most hypnotic creations. The Widmanstätten figures, sometimes called also Thomson’s structure, are that intricate pattern of intersecting lamellae which are observed when the polished surface of an octahedrite-type metallic meteorite is etched with a dilute solution of nitric acid or ferric chloride.
The choice of dark midnight blue is a reminder of the night sky, a moment before it is illuminated by the passage of the meteorite.
With StarWalker SpaceBlue, Montblanc is also introducing an innovative solution for the processing of resin parts into the main lines. A newly developed injection tool was used to replicate the distinctive Widmanstätten pattern, as the resin body is internally treated with lasers.
The collection with ruthenium-plated metal finishes is available in a twist ballpoint pen version, a rollerball pen with screw cap and a fountain pen with 14kt gold nib and cartridge and converter filling.
